چکیده

The aim of this thesis to perform geometric self calibration of a projector camera system using only a smartphone and a small projector. The developed system is capable of performing Structured Light Scanning with off-the-shelf devices, namely a Nokia N900 smartphone and an Optoma PK 320 pico projector. We decouple the projector from the smartphone, which is our computational device and our camera. No information needs to be transferred through a direct connection between the projector and the smartphone during capture and digitisation. The system is capable of reconstructing rigid objects while the projector is being held in one hand and the camera is fixed. It can reconstruct dense depth maps of objects ranging in size from 5 to 50 cm. The performance of the system using three different types of pattern codification strategies is evaluated in terms of calibration accuracy and reconstruction quality. A system is presented capable of capturing the geometry of an object in less than one second and reconstructing it in less than 30 minutes on the smartphone or in less than 30 seconds on a current desktop PC.

Low-cost 3d Laser Scanning in Air or Water Using Self-calibrating Structured Light

In-situ calibration of structured light scanners in underwater environments is time-consuming and complicated. This paper presents a self-calibrating line laser scanning system, which enables the creation of dense 3D models with a single fixed camera and a freely moving hand-held cross line laser projector. The proposed approach exploits geometric constraints, such as coplanarities, to recover ...

Depth from Encoded Sliding Projections

We present a novel method for 3D shape acquisition, based on mobile structured light. Unlike classical structured light methods, in which a static projector illuminates the scene with dynamic illumination patterns, mobile structured light employs a moving projector translated at a constant velocity in the direction of the projector’s horizontal axis, emitting static or dynamic illumination. For...

ENGN 2911 I: 3D Photography and Geometry Processing Assignment 2: Structured Light for 3D Scanning

The goal of this assignment is to build a 3D scanner using one or more digital cameras and a single projector. While the “desktop scanner” [2] implemented in the previous assignment is inexpensive, it has limited practical utility. The scanning process requires manual manipulation of the stick, and the time required to sweep the shadow plane across the scene limits the system to reconstructing ...

Surround structured lighting: 3-D scanning with orthographic illumination

This paper presents a new system for rapidly acquiring complete 3-D surface models using a single orthographic structured light projector, a pair of planar mirrors, and one or more synchronized cameras. Using the mirrors, we project structured light patterns that illuminate the object from all sides (not just the side of the projector) and are able to observe the object from several vantage poi...

Embedded System for 3D Shape Reconstruction

Many applications that use three-dimensional scanning require a low cost, accurate and fast solution. This paper presents a fixed-point implementation of a real time active stereo threedimensional acquisition system on a Texas Instruments DM6446 EVM board which meets these requirements. A time-multiplexed structured light reconstruction technique is described and a fixed point algorithm for its...
